Remember me? A case study in neglected marketing
Ever find yourself spending all your time working in your business, instead of on your business?
I’m a solopreneur in a service based business.
Which means that when things get busy, it’s not the client work that gets neglected. It’s the business development side of things that goes out the window. The planning, the product building, the book-keeping, the marketing… you know, the stuff that keeps you solvent so you can continue to help clients!
Ok. You might never have found yourself in this situation. But we’ve all seen those people who have…
The personal trainer battling with their own weight. The doctor who can’t get through the day without a sneaky cigarette. The life coach with more emotional issues than her clients. The virtual assistant who can’t find time to do their own admin. The web designer with the butt-ugly website.
Ouch. That last one hurt!
So… we are all human.
And part of me feels okay about the fact that I can’t do everything all the time. That perhaps I should cut myself some slack.
But another part of me is embarrassed that a few months ago I was extolling the virtues of building great systems, and now I’m living proof that systems are useless if you don’t use them.
The good thing is that I do have systems in place. So all I really need to do is start using them again.
To find time – and bloody well ring-fence it! – to focus on the things in my business that need my personal attention.
To find people – and fully empower and trust them! – to do the things in my business that I don’t personally need to do.
So just those seemingly enormous small steps to conquer and then I can be back here talking to you more often.
But in the meantime I wanted to reach out and say hello. To let you know what’s going on for us, and find out what’s going on for you.
